I’m not at all sick, unless there’s an illness that causes a person to suffer from traveling withdrawal, or makes a person daydream the day away thinking of the next future traveling plans. But if it IS really such a sickness, I don’t want the cure! Let me ‘stay sick’! 🙂 It’s hard to believe it’s been right over two weeks since I flew home. The month passed by so quickly it felt like I’d only been gone a week, rather than a month. If only if only if only I could’ve stayed longer… every time I look up to watch an airplane fly overhead, I imagine myself being up there, and wonder when I can get back up there again.
Traveling really does do something magical to a person. The person is never the same again. I will never be the same again. My heart has been opened to the wonderful possibilities of meeting new, exciting people on the road, in new, exotic/enchanting places. How many times had I thought to myself, while riding on the train or hiking in the Alps, or leisurely walking through an old town, “Man, I wish people could see what I see.” What I also meant, too, was: I wish that people could feel what I’m feeling. Right now. As I stand here and breath in this unfamiliar air. As I look around me and notice all these wonderful things and people.
If only people knew how easy traveling really is. Okay, let me be honest. I, for one, have never, ever traveled abroad before. Ever. Not even to the Bahamas or Canada. Heck, I haven’t even been to New York or L.A. Traveling IS expensive and one of the main reasons why people don’t do it. To top it off, I traveled to one of the most, if not THE MOST expensive country in the world: Switzerland. For one month. How? After doing to surfing on the net and tons of research, I found a most awesome website which makes it possible for people to travel all over the world for free or next to nothing. There are families all over the world (called hosts) who posts ads for needing help. This ‘help’ can be anywhere from farm-work to babysitting. The website is called: http://www.workaway.info and I found it completely by accident.
And would you believe it if I told you that I stayed in Switzerland for a full month for less than $2’000? A FULL MONTH! The plane ticket was right at $900 and I bought a Swiss Travel Pass for about $450…. which comes close to about $1’500. I did spend a little extra on souvenirs and such….
My point is, if you want to travel but have a budget and can’t spend to much, don’t let MONEY stop you from traveling. I’m no expert on this. Far from it. I speak only from my little dinky experience, but I speak in all honesty. It amazes me how people will tell me that they would travel, but it’s just ‘too much money’… but it IS possible to secure a cheap flight. You just have to know where to look. Perhaps you can get flights cheaper than what I got mine. Who knows? I do know I didn’t have to pay $2’000 for a RT plane ticket….I paid less than half that price.
As of late, I’ve been making plans on travelling again (can’t say when) but I will. And soon. Hopefully soon. I will start right away with saving up my money to make the trip possible. There’s so much to explore in this world! I don’t want to die before I get to see it all! I feel like time flies too quickly and that life is too short to waste time! No, I am already busy at planning my next adventure and will be saving money like a maniac, working and doing whatever it takes for me to get on another plane and see the world again!
Til then, I remain,
