It’s the little things.

Getting a letter in the mail. (I love this more than anything in the world!)

Listening to the songbird outside the window during spring.

Homemade chocolate-chip cookies.

A phone call from a friend. (especially on one of your off-days – perfect thing to cheer you up)

That stranger who smiles at you, making you feel like the world isn’t such a bad place after all.

A super playful kitten (who’s attempting to disrupt my typing while I write this, haha)

Having a good hair day (when your hair actually behaves itself!)

Witnessing a sunrise at the beach.

Ice-cream in the summer. (Hands down, Cookies-&-Cream is the best. Sorry….. Okay, Cookie-dough is pretty good, too)

Hearing your favorite song on the radio.

Finding an awesome deal in a thrift store. (Nothing beats finding designer clothing for a couple bucks!)

Waking up to find it’s Saturday (Hallelujah, weekend-lovers).

Laughter of any kind. (excepting the annoying one…)

Making amends with someone (like a sibling) after a blow-out.

Stay up late watching a favorite movie (with buttery popcorn – napkins included).

Sighting a falling star in the night sky.

A hug. Especially when needed most.

This is a small list of some things that make me happy. (The list could be way longer, but who has time to read someone’s full ‘things-that-make-me-happy list’?) Sometimes, whenever I feel down, or am waiting for something big to happen in life, to make me “happier”, I have to stop, pause, and remind myself to be thankful for the little things in life. Sometimes, it’s often what makes us most happy. (Boy, sure am glad I’ve learned this now while I’m young!) Maybe you have things to add to it, too. There are plenty of little things that make us happy. Not that the big stuff doesn’t make us happy. It’s just that I believe it doesn’t really take much to make us happy. I’m always amazed at how the most simplest things make children happy (like, for example, bubbles). It just doesn’t take much.

I should learn from them….

I guess I tend to go with the saying “The best things arrive in small packages.”

As unimportant or small as they may seem, it’s the little things that help make life beautiful, better and worth living for.

  1. I love this. I have this book just “Just the Little Things” and it has the majority of the things you listed above. I read it to give me hope throughout the week.

    1. That’s so cool!…it certainly is a great way to boost happiness, by focusing on the small pleasures in life. Thanks for you comment 😀
