Why I Use (and recommend) Lightroom CC to Edit Photos (Before & After Photos)

I cannot say how much the Lightroom photo editing software has saved my life with enhancing my pictures beautifully. It’s super simple and easy to use, and 90% of the time I apply the same rules to every photo.

I’ve heard some people say they don’t see the point in editing, and feel a photo should be able to stand on its own without additional edits. While this could be true, I tend to believe a photo should look its best, and especially when I post on my blog, I’ve noticed how much better everything looks with edited photos vs. non-edited photos.

Big difference.

It does take time to go through and edit every photo, but at the same time, if you’re wanting to attract people’s eye and have them appreciate your pictures, I personally feel it’s best to tweak that photo a bit.

Plus, it’s fun 🙂

I love editing pictures and using Lightroom is super awesome and easy.

Lightroom is a fantastic photo editing software available online through Adobe. It does cost some money, usually about $9.99 a month for the most basic plan. I, however, decided to give the phone app a try and you can download it for free ( both iPhone and Android) with access to quite a number of features. I pay $4.99 a month for the app to have a few additional features but it’s really not so necessary (I speak for myself) and may cancel soon.

You can try the free trial first thought to see how you like it as well!

Anyhow, I’m going to share some of my pictures and what they looked like before editing them with Lightroom and after.

All of these photos, except maybe 2 of them, were taken with an iPhone. Now I just want to show how much of a difference your photos can look with just a little bit of editing!

Here is what the photo looks like before I’ve done anything to it. Quite dark not very vibrant.

What I usually do is turn highlights down to -100 and shadows up to +100 .. maybe not all the way everytime, but something like this. Then I increase the exposure a bit.

Then I increase the temperature of the photo just a little bit, to give a warmer glow (it’s summertime anyway 😉 )

Next I use a feature called ‘dehaze’ and this works great for landscape photos! It seems to give it more clarity and depth.

Finally, I go back and lighten the photo a bit more by, once again, increasing the exposure so that the photo isn’t so dark. I also decreased the contrast in this case to further lighten the photo.

And that’s all there is to it! This method I use pretty much works for all of my pictures (sometimes they don’t need to be lightened so much, and other times they need more vibrancy. It all depends on the photo. I tend to take a lot of landscape pictures so that’s why I pretty much use the same method).

I don’t like having dark photos so I always take out the shadow (usually as much as I can) but adding that ‘dehaze‘ method seems to also add a lot of depth to my pictures, as well as detail.

Just play around the app and experiment with what works for you! There are endless possibilities! Have fun with it and take your time with finding something that will make your photos have that extra ‘pop‘! 😉

  1. Your Great Grandmother Smith also enjoyed using photo editing applications- such as this one to enhance her photos. She would spend hours and hours “working on her photos”- She primarily used Adobe Photoshop software. I am so proud of you and your gifted photography skills. (She would also be very proud!). Your photos look very professional and are very, very beautiful. You are a true artist! Love and smiles from Grandma Becky

    1. Thank you so much Grandma Becky 😊😊 I truly know now how much work editing photos can be. And it does take a lot of time! Sometimes hours like you said! I wish now I could have seen some of the photos she worked on.
Photos are definitely fun tho 😀😀
